My name is Jamie Livingston-Dierks.
Since 1996 I’ve been a serial entrepreneur. In that time, I’ve learned the value of the Internet and social media in building and selling the businesses I’ve owned and built. For the last 21 years, I owned a fast food restaurant, where I worked six days a week, and I also managed the social media and marketing aspects of the business. In that time, I also started an online greeting card company which I eventually sold to a company in the UK, and I started and expanded a jewelry manufacturing company. And all that time, I wrote novels (under the pen names Jamie Lee Scott and Twist Roberts). My writing became so successful that I chose to close the jewelry business. I couldn’t maintain and grow a manufacturing company and give it 100%, write, and continue to run the restaurant. Something had to give.
And then along came July 2016, when we sold our restaurant. What a relief, right? Well…that business, like my jewelry business was a six-figure income, so as happy as I was to be out of the restaurant business, it was a hit to our income. So I took a better look at how I could take advantage of my time. What could I do to expand my presence online and build my readership? And, now that I had one less income, I needed to take a good look at our budget to make sure we could still live in the style to which we’d become accustomed.
I’ve always been terrified of having my eggs in one basket, so I wanted to develop a new business, and maybe teach others what I’ve learned. In the writing business, algorithms change and overnight the income levels drop. This is why I started blogging and learning more about social media. Hundreds of hours of research and learning. In 2016 I began to see changes. Lots of changes in my blogging stats, and in my book sales. When authors were complaining about declining sales, I was looking elsewhere. I never want to be chasing the money with writing. It was all about telling stories, still is.
If you’re looking for a side hustle or wanting to get your budget in order, even trying to figure out how to make and reach your goals, I’m sharing what I’ve learned.
This site was built with wordpress.org and I closed down all of my old Blogger endeavors to concentrate on one thing: inspiring and encouraging others to learn how to life the best life, and maybe to earn a little extra income on the side. As a writer, I’m also a screenwriter, and my screenwriting website boasted 100,000 views a month, even when I hadn’t posted for more than two years. But I didn’t know anything about blogging when I built that site. Now, I’m on a path to helping others learn what I’ve learned.
Stay tuned as I add written and video blog posts regarding digital media, expanding an online presence, writing, and (because I love things) lifestyle. And there may even be a few posts about horses, since they are my life!
