My Story

My name is Jamie Livingston-Dierks.

Since 1996 I’ve been a serial entrepreneur. In that time, I learned the value of the internet and social media in building and selling the businesses I’ve built from scratch and eventually sold. For the last 21 years, I owned and ran a fast food restaurant. I was also ran all of the marketing for the restaurant, which eventually included a social media presence. In that time, I also started an online greeting card company which I eventually sold to a company in the UK, and a jewelry manufacturing company. While I built those businesses to 6-figure incomes, I wrote novels (under the pen names Jamie Lee Scott). I eventually sold off parts of the manufacturing business and concentrated solely on the restaurant and my writing. As for writing, it’s 20% writing new novels and 80% marketing, and it’s a tough market out there.

And then along came July 2016, when we sold our restaurant. What a relief, right? Well…that business, like my jewelry business, was a six-figure income, so as happy as I was to be out of the restaurant business, it was a hit to our income, since the money we made from selling it went directly into our retirement account. I have a very savvy investor living right under my roof. He’s happily contributed to some of the money blog posts.

Suddenly, writing novels became our sole income, and I had to take a fresh look at my goals. What could I do to expand my presence online and build my readership? I also needed to take a good look at our budget to make sure we could still live in the style to which we’d become accustomed without dipping into our retirement investments.

I’ve always been terrified of having my eggs in one basket, so I wanted to develop a new business, and maybe teach others what I’ve learned. In the writing business, algorithms change and overnight the income levels can drop. This is why I started blogging and learning more about social media. I began putting in hundreds of hours of research in 2016 and saw changes. Lots of changes in my blogging stats, and in my book sales. When authors were complaining about declining sales, I was looking elsewhere. I never want to be chasing the money with writing. Writing novels is about the love of storytelling, and always will be.

If you’re looking for a side hustle or wanting to get your budget in order, even trying to figure out how to make and reach your goals, I’m sharing what I’ve learned. My goal with this blog is to help others work from anywhere like I do. We have a home in the Midwest, and an acreage in Texas, so I need a career that travels with me.

This site was built with and I closed down all of my old Blogger endeavors to concentrate on one thing: inspiring and encouraging others to learn how to life the best life, and maybe to earn a little extra income on the side. My screenwriting website boasted 100,000 views a month, even when I hadn’t posted for more than two years. But I didn’t know anything about blogging when I built that site. Now, I’m on a path to helping others learn what I’ve learned.

Stay tuned as I add written and video blog posts to fit your lifestyle.
